Familiar Local for macOS · Updated 25 October 2026
Information the app handles
Familiar does not collect or send personal information to the developer. No account is required. Chat history is stored in browser local storage on your Mac. Conversation context is held in memory while the local helper is running and resets when the helper stops.
On-device model and local connection
When you send a prompt, Familiar passes it to Apple Foundation Models through a local service on the same Mac. The helper listens only on 127.0.0.1 and is not exposed to your local network. Familiar does not send prompts or responses to a hosted AI service.
Apple Foundation Models requires a supported Mac, macOS 26 or later, Apple Intelligence, and a ready on-device model. Availability depends on Apple’s supported devices and languages.
Storage and deletion
Your chat history stays in local browser storage on this Mac. Use the chat controls to delete a conversation. Stopping Familiar clears the model context held in memory; it does not automatically delete saved chat history.
Support links
If you choose Support or Report an Issue, Familiar opens GitHub in your browser. Any information you choose to share there is handled under GitHub’s own privacy terms.
